# The Cyborg from 2050
I stumbled on it while scrolling through x.com. Weird things were already happening in 2020 before the pandemic, and this series collects them. The first entry starts on January 31, 2020, when a young man walked onto the Dr. Phil stage and announced that he was a cyborg from the year 2050. Weeks later the world locked down. The episode is a time capsule: the vocabulary of 2050, spoken on daytime television, just before the year gave everyone a preview of systemic fragility.
Orrin was 24, a graduate of NYU's Stern Business School with a 3.9 GPA. He had planned a finance career, marriage, and a family. Two years earlier, according to his mother Anita, he had announced that he is, and always has been, a mechanized cyborg from the year 2050. Anita and Orrin's sister came on the show to seek help. Anita said she believed Orrin was using the cyborg persona as an excuse to live in her house and avoid getting a paying job. His sister said she first thought he was joking.
His message had four parts. First, the identity: "we are Orrin, a digital and collective conscious and cyborg from the year 2050 sent by a higher civilization to save mankind from the Matrix." Second, the mission: he was part of a [[wiki/Collective Intelligence|collective intelligence]] sent back by higher beings to warn humanity about an apocalypse in 2050 — disease, famine, environmental disaster, and technological destruction through AI. "We are a collective conscious and it is our collective responsibility to guide Earth from the apocalypse in 2050." Third, the remedy: revolution, and a remaking of institutions toward the greater good, society, the environment, and uplifting communities. Fourth, the delivery system: he had created a hip-hop artist persona to gain followers on social media for the cause. He spoke only in the plural — "we" and "our," never "I" — and spent his days in his bedroom, which he called his headquarters, saying he lived on water and smoothies.
The mechanization claim was the one part Dr. Phil could test. Orrin said he was already partly mechanized: a brain implant through which he spoke, and legs that were part steel, the result of operations he said he had undergone. Dr. Phil challenged the claim directly, saying there was no brain implant, and proposed the obvious test: an X-ray of the legs would show mechanism or bone and muscle. The X-ray was never shown on air. No diagnosis was announced on the show, and no evidence for the implant claim was presented. The claim stayed where it started: asserted, untested.
The show revisited the case on October 21, 2020. The follow-up was billed around Anita saying it was time for her son to move out. What came next is documented.
Orrin kept the belief after the show. He reiterated the claims in a YouTube interview with ApexTV, a channel that features people claiming to be from the future, where he said a corporation keeps people down with marketing and propaganda that divides them by gender, race, sexuality, identity, and preference. He built his own YouTube series around the persona, and in interviews he has distinguished "cyborg Orrin" from "real Orrin," the musician who feels the emotions. He later released an NFT edition of his album MUTANT through Mintbase. He remains active as realorrin across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and streaming platforms, releasing music videos.
The episode is interesting because the vocabulary of 2050 was already on daytime TV in January 2020, spoken by a young man in his mother's house. His Matrix is the [[wiki/Are You Living in a Computer Simulation|simulation]] story told as personal identity. His claims are the folk version of questions this corpus treats as engineering: a brain implant is a [[wiki/BCI Operating-System Substrate|brain-computer interface]]; a collective consciousness is [[wiki/Collective Intelligence|collective intelligence]]; a mechanized body is [[wiki/Post-Biological Embodiment|post-biological embodiment]]; a mind not confined to one biological body is the subject of [[wiki/Remote Embodiment|remote embodiment]] and [[wiki/Mind Uploading|mind uploading]]. The corpus asks how to build and govern these things. Orrin announced they were already true of him, with no evidence. The distance between those two postures is the whole story. One is a research program. The other is a young man, a bedroom, and a warning about 2050.
2020 had more of these moments. This series will collect them.
