# Pedagogy and Publication [[american/American Ethos - Vision and Doctrine|← American Ethos: Vision and Doctrine]] · [[american/American Ethos - The Four Literacies|The Four Literacies]] ## Four Publication Forms The American standard requires different forms because a rule, an explanation, a complete teaching, and a choice under conditions are not the same intellectual object. A **Standard** states the rule compactly. A **Manual** develops the practice until a learner can use it. A **Briefing** supplies cultural argument, history, evidence, and stakes. A **Field Guide** assists selection and preparation in real environments. **Signal** material provides the shorter semiotic layer by explaining what a behavior, object, or presentation communicates before explanation. The curriculum begins with rescue rather than rebuke. Many adults were never taught the grammar they are now expected to perform, and humiliation only makes instruction less accurate by turning anxiety into concealment. The teacher names the rule, explains its human purpose, demonstrates legitimate variations, provides an affordable path, and gives the learner enough practice that attention can leave the self and return to the room. ## The Teaching Sequence - **Orient:** name the room, purpose, roles, stakes, and governing value. - **Explain:** show the mechanism through which the rule protects dignity or capability. - **Demonstrate:** provide good, bad, and context-dependent examples. - **Practice:** rehearse until the behavior no longer requires theatrical concentration. - **Review:** examine the signal, consequence, and repair after real use. - **Transmit:** require advanced learners to form the next person. ## Curriculum Integration Citizen instruction supplies accessible foundations; Field instruction develops mobility and readiness; Headquarters instruction develops meetings, briefings, documents, and institutional conduct; Diplomatic instruction develops public consequence, ceremony, and international legibility; Reserve instruction develops hosting, mentorship, preservation, and transmission. The sequence names context rather than human rank. The highest publication does more than describe refinement. It makes refinement available. A standard becomes American when an ordinary citizen can learn it, practice it, and eventually teach it without first inheriting permission. ## Simple Reminders, Quotations, and Thoughts > “Keep interested in science and do well in your math and science classes.
