# American Civic Character
**Domain:** Duty / Service / Character
**Series:** [[american/American Ethos - Simple Reminders on Real American Pride|Simple Reminders on Real American Pride]]
## Definition
American civic character is formed in the ordinary duties that spectacle overlooks. Honest work, kind deeds, service, courage, and the faithful performance of small responsibilities teach a free citizen how to carry consequence without aristocratic theater. This is a republic's answer to inherited rank: contribution becomes distinction, and conduct becomes the visible proof of worth. Character is therefore less a declaration than a record of repeated acts. A nation acquires moral weight when its citizens make reliability habitual.
