# American Standard
**Domain:** Standards / Civic Reliability
**System:** American System
## Definition
The American Standard is the compact expectation that freedom should become reliable through competence, truthful conduct, self-command, useful design, and service. It does not prescribe a single class costume or personality. It supplies common tests that can travel from an ordinary household to a laboratory, public office, command center, company, or diplomatic room. The standard is proven when conduct remains coherent after conditions cease to be decorative.
## Place in the American System
American Standard is developed from American Ethos - The Governing Idea and belongs to the American Collection. Its role is to keep one stable concept available across doctrine, character, comportment, material culture, intelligence participation, and alliance work without collapsing those levels into one another.
