# Citizen as Signal
**Domain:** Semiotics / Civic Conduct
**System:** [[wiki/American Ethos|American Ethos]]
## Definition
Citizen as Signal describes how every pattern of conduct teaches other people what can be expected. Speech, timing, dress, device use, tools, maintenance, and follow-through communicate before biography or credentials are explained. The signal should not manufacture a false identity; it should make real preparation and regard easier to perceive. A citizen improves the common world by making trustworthy conduct legible.
