# Automated Certificate Management Environment
Automated Certificate Management Environment (ACME) is a protocol for automating certificate issuance, validation, renewal, and revocation. It reduces manual certificate administration and makes short-lived, renewable credentials practical at scale.
## Notebook role
ACME appears on PDF page 47 of [[Scanned_20260730-1913]] in a managed-macOS configuration cluster. Alongside SCEP, SSO, Wi-Fi, and TCC, it shows the notebook tracing how enterprise authority is distributed through distinct configuration payloads.
## Boundary
An ACME payload name does not prove certificate issuance, management authorization, compromise, or access to a specific service. The certificate authority, account binding, device identity, and profile signer remain necessary evidence.
