# Device Label Harvesting
Device label harvesting is the systematic capture of printed and engraved identifiers before interpreting a device, component, shipment, or certification record.
## Capture set
Photograph the whole object, every label in context, close views of serial and regulatory identifiers, adhesive edges or residue, connector and board markings, packaging, and purchase or shipment records. Preserve orientation and do not detach labels merely to improve legibility.
## Evidentiary rule
A label establishes what the object claims to be and supplies lookup keys. It does not alone prove authenticity, current internal hardware, custody history, or firmware provenance.
