# Digital Identity
Digital identity is the set of identifiers, accounts, credentials, attributes, roles, devices, and institutional assertions through which a person or organization is represented in information systems.

## Required distinctions
Human identity, account identity, display name, authentication factor, certificate, device, phone number, email alias, and organizational role are related but not interchangeable. A mismatch among them can reflect migration, synchronization, stale data, error, shared administration, or unauthorized access; the mismatch alone does not decide which.
