# Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol (SCEP) automates requests and delivery of public-key certificates to managed endpoints. In device management it helps bind a device or user identity to certificate-based network, VPN, or service access. ## Notebook role SCEP appears on PDF page 47 of [[Scanned_20260730-1913]] within a managed-macOS profile inventory alongside SSO, Wi-Fi, TCC, Jamf, and ACME. Its significance is architectural: certificate enrollment moves trust from a typed password toward managed cryptographic identity. ## Boundary The protocol name does not establish that a certificate was issued, which authority issued it, whether enrollment was authorized, or what resource it granted access to. ## Relationships [[Apple Device Management]] · [[Mobile Device Management]] · [[Automated Certificate Management Environment]] · [[Single Sign-On]] ## Source - [[Scanned_20260730-1913]], PDF page 47.
