# Rome Reborn Rome Reborn is Bernard Frischer's long-running scholarly effort to reconstruct ancient Rome digitally for research, education, and immersive viewing. The project brings archaeology, architectural history, 3D modeling, and virtual reality together; it is a concrete instance of technology carrying a classical inheritance into a new medium. Frischer recalled that Palmer Luckey approached the team in 2011 with an interest in consumer VR tours through ancient Rome and later helped connect the project with Oculus executives. That relationship does not make Luckey the originator of Rome Reborn. It illustrates how a hardware founder could help a scholarly reconstruction reach new audiences. ## Related Roman Antiquity in Silicon Valley · Classical Antiquity in Technology Culture · Material and Interpretive Custody ## Sources - [Bernard Frischer interview on Rome Reborn and Oculus](https://skarredghost.com/2019/01/29/ancient-rome-vr-rome-reborn/amp/). - [University of Virginia description of the Rome Reborn project](https://www.iath.virginia.edu/news/iath_romereborn_news.html).
