# AI Takeoff
**Entity class:** Technology-transition concept
**Domain:** Artificial intelligence / infrastructure / political economy
**Maturity:** Developed
## Definition
**AI takeoff** describes a period in which capability, investment, infrastructure and adoption accelerate together rapidly enough that machine intelligence becomes an organizing industrial force rather than a discrete software sector. The concept concerns coupled system change, not a single model suddenly becoming omnipotent.
## Mechanism
New training clusters, inference-time reasoning, autonomous action, falling baseline costs and rising enterprise demand reinforce one another. Public models reveal capability produced by earlier factories while larger factories already under construction train their successors, creating a lag between visible performance and the industrial base driving it.

## Evidence Boundary
Takeoff is an interpretive periodization. It should not be confused with proof of artificial general intelligence, consciousness, uncontrollable recursive self-improvement or any single fixed acceleration rate.
