**ARL South** is the Army Research Laboratory’s regional presence established with headquarters at UT Austin to work within the surrounding research ecosystem. The Army’s announcement identifies materials, bioscience, energy, cybersecurity, intelligent systems, and manufacturing as relevant areas.
Its mechanism is embedding Army researchers in regional collaborations. That is a different institutional relationship from [[wiki/Applied Research Laboratories at UT Austin|ARL:UT]]’s Navy UARC designation, despite the similar acronym.
In the Austin map ARL South adds a direct Army research interface beside Oden’s computation, local experimental infrastructure, and manufacturing capabilities.
