# Agent Economy
**Entity class:** Emerging economic architecture
**Domain:** Agentic AI / machine-to-machine markets
## Definition
An agent economy is an economic environment in which artificial agents can request services, negotiate terms, exchange value, delegate tasks, form temporary organizations and transact with other agents or people. Its distinctive unit is not an AI-assisted human transaction but an operative artificial participant acting through identity, authorization, payment and contract infrastructure.
## Development path
The architecture begins with bounded delegated activity and can grow through interoperable identity, wallets, protocols, reputation and enforcement. Large-scale agent economies may become a social layer of [[wiki/Multi-Agent Systems|Multi-Agent Systems]] and [[wiki/Machine Civilization|Machine Civilization]], but present demonstrations do not prove autonomous machine sovereignty.
