# Air Force Gaming **Domain:** Military community / Esports **Doc Type:** Developed Program Node **Maturity:** Developed **Collection:** Gamification Collection ## Definition **Air Force Gaming** is the Department of the Air Force's gaming and esports program for Airmen and Guardians. It organizes competitive and recreational play as a community, resilience, and force-connection activity across geographically distributed personnel. ## Significance The program is evidence of an institutional gaming membrane, but its documented purposes must be kept distinct. Community gaming, public outreach, recruiting, skill assessment, and operational training are not interchangeable simply because they use related platforms or player populations. Air Force Gaming matters because it normalizes gaming as an official military social environment and creates contact between service identity and esports culture. Stronger claims—that play directly selects combat operators or covertly trains participants—require separate program-level evidence. ## Sources - Department of the Air Force, [DAFI 34-114: Air Force Gaming and Esports Program](https://static.e-publishing.af.mil/production/1/af_a1/publication/dafi34-114/dafi34-114.pdf) - Department of Defense, [Military esports: how gaming is changing recruitment and morale](https://www.war.gov/News/Feature-Stories/Story/article/3244620/military-esports-how-gaming-is-changing-recruitment-morale/) ## Routes Esports and Military Recruitment · Gamer-to-Drone-Pilot Recruitment · Military-Entertainment Complex
