It joins clothing, objects, conduct, institutional trust, technical literacy, maintenance, service, and civic dignity without reducing them to fashion or patriotic spectacle. Its recurring formula is **intelligence without costume, patriotism without pageantry, technology without vulgarity, and power without spectacle**. ## Yorktown Anchor The [[IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center]] provides an architectural and institutional anchor for AmericanForme’s [[Langley–Armonk]] code. Saarinen’s glass, local fieldstone, shared horizon, and research function show technical modernity joined to restraint, permanence, landscape, and work. This is not permission to copy a 1961 interior as costume. It is a test of whether contemporary design can recover the underlying standard: consequential work made humanly inhabitable, materials maintained, and authority expressed without spectacle. ## Personal Aesthetic Baseline [[Personal Aesthetic Baseline]] will collect Bryant’s directly stated preferences in furnishings, architecture, materials and environments as they develop through future journal entries. It is evidence for understanding the sensibility behind AmericanForme, but the two layers should remain distinct.
