# Analog Experience **Domain:** Perception / Media Theory **Doc Type:** Concept Node **Maturity:** Developed ## Definition Analog experience is embodied contact with a continuously changing world whose sensory, spatial, and temporal richness exceeds any single recording of it. ## Mechanism A recording samples, frames, compresses, and stores selected signals. Direct experience continues to supply changing perspective, bodily feedback, peripheral sensation, and interaction that the representation cannot fully contain. ## Significance The distinction matters whenever a representation is mistaken for the event, a model for the world, or a digital trace for the whole person. ## Relationships - Information Theory - Human Perception as Intelligence Object - Semiotics ## Simple Reminders, Quotations, and Thoughts > “Analog experience carries a resolution that recordings only approximate. A digital sample is segmented, compressed, and limited by its storage, while the living world flows continuously. Standing at the Grand Canyon delivers far more information than any photograph of it.” > **— Bryant McGill**, *Returning to Your Power by Reclaiming Agency From Systems of Control, Part 2 - Livestream (Dec 2015)* Living Experience Exceeds the Resolution of Recordings by Bryant McGill
