# Antifragility **Domain:** Systems / Risk / Adaptation **Doc Type:** Canonical Concept Node **Maturity:** Developed **Primary Source and Category Hub:** [[books/Chimping Out|Chimping Out]] ## Definition **Antifragility is the capacity of a person, organization, or system to improve some relevant capability through bounded stress, disruption, error, or attack.** The gain may appear as better information, stronger coordination, useful redundancy, improved recovery, corrected incentives, or a design that makes the same failure less likely to succeed again. ## Boundary Antifragility is more specific than toughness. A robust system resists damage. A resilient system continues operating or recovers. A deterrent system raises the expected cost of attack. An antifragile system uses the encounter to become better prepared or better organized. “Make yourself too expensive to harm” is therefore primarily a [[wiki/Deterrence Pricing|deterrence-pricing]] instruction. It becomes antifragile when attempted harm also produces learning, evidence, alliances, redundancy, or institutional changes that strengthen the target against future attempts.
