# Author-Side Extraction Author-side extraction occurs when the author declares a reusable semantic unit and its standalone requirements during composition. The timing matters. Reader-side or editorial extraction discovers a candidate after the prose has hardened; author-side extraction makes autonomy a condition the sentence must satisfy before it is accepted into the document.
