# Azure Arc **Entity class:** Hybrid, multicloud, and edge management plane **Architecture:** Signals, Silos, and Sovereign Software ## Definition **Azure Arc** projects servers, Kubernetes clusters, databases, and other resources outside Azure into Azure Resource Manager so they can be inventoried, governed, secured, and configured through a consistent control plane. ## Modern Defense and Cybersecurity Role Defense infrastructure spans commercial clouds, bases, tactical edges, ships, contractor facilities, and disconnected networks. Arc supplies a management vocabulary across those locations without requiring every workload to live in Azure. ## Chronological Proximity Introduced in 2019, Azure Arc emerged as edge and multicloud defense architectures made centralized governance across distributed infrastructure a first-order requirement. ## Relational Proximity Azure Stack Hub supplies local cloud capacity; Arc supplies cross-environment governance; Defender for Cloud and Azure Policy extend security and compliance controls to Arc-enabled resources. ## Collection Routes The Civilian Intelligence Marketplace · Terrorism, Counterterrorism, and the Intelligence Environment ## Sources / Provenance - [Primary documentation](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-arc/overview)
