**Entity class:** On-premises and disconnected cloud platform
**Architecture:** Signals, Silos, and Sovereign Software
## Definition
**Azure Stack Hub** brings a subset of Azure services into customer-controlled facilities and can operate in connected or disconnected configurations.
## Modern Defense and Cybersecurity Role
Disconnected deployment makes the platform relevant to classified facilities, tactical locations, ships, and other environments where mission systems cannot depend on continuous public-cloud connectivity. Microsoft describes the disconnected pattern as a submarine scenario.
## Chronological Proximity
Azure Stack became generally available in 2017 and later formed part of Microsoft's broader hybrid and tactical-edge cloud architecture alongside Azure Arc.
## Relational Proximity
Stack Hub supplies local compute; Arc can govern distributed environments; Azure Government supplies accredited hyperscale services where connectivity and classification permit.
