# Blackrock Neurotech **Domain:** Implantable Brain-Computer Interfaces / Neural Recording / Clinical Translation **Doc Type:** Institution and Reference-Architecture Node **Maturity:** Developed ## Definition **Blackrock Neurotech is an implantable brain-computer-interface company whose Utah Array and NeuroPort lineage has supported long-running human neural-interface research.** In this research cluster, Blackrock is the mature invasive performance, experimental-hardware, and regulatory reference architecture against which less-invasive systems can be compared. ## Subsense bridges Subsense BCI has at least two direct personnel-and-practice bridges to Blackrock: - Subsense identifies **Lindsey Jardine** as its Regulatory Advisor, describes her as a former Vice President of Clinical and Regulatory at Blackrock Neurotech, and says she is leading Subsense's FDA TAP Pilot and Breakthrough-neurotechnology strategies. - Subsense identifies **Sergey Stavisky** as a Scientific Advisor. Stavisky's neural-interface research has used Blackrock NeuroPort arrays, and his intellectual-property record includes BCI technology licensed to Blackrock. These are distinct pathways: clinical-regulatory translation on one side and scientific, hardware, and IP experience on the other. They show a shared developmental ecology and relevant expertise moving across institutional boundaries. They do not establish that Blackrock owns, controls, validates, or has transferred a complete technology to Subsense. ## Tether ownership In April 2024, Tether Evo invested $200 million in Blackrock Neurotech, making Tether the majority stakeholder. This creates a documented capital route from a crypto-native institution into an established BCI company. The ownership relationship is not evidence that Tether invested in Subsense. ## Comparative role Blackrock's implanted-electrode systems and human-research history provide a high-resolution invasive benchmark. Subsense's proposed discontinuity is the relocation of part of the interface into administered functional nanoparticles, while Merge Labs is developing a separate biology-device-AI and ultrasound route. Comparison does not imply corporate succession or common technical origin. ## Routes Subsense BCI · Tether Evo · Merge Labs · Neural Interfaces and Continuity Architecture · Neural Data Sovereignty ## Sources / Provenance - Blackrock Neurotech, [Tether invested $200M in Blackrock Neurotech](https://blackrockneurotech.com/insights/tether-invested-200m-in-blackrock-neurotech-accelerating-development-and-commercialization-of-implantable-bci-technology/), April 29, 2024. - Subsense, [Team, collaborators, and advisors](https://subsense-bci.com/about-us/). - Bryant-supplied Blackrock–Subsense research memorandum, September 7, 2026 — source of the multi-path topology and research questions.
