# Boundaries
**Domain:** Relationships / Self-Governance
**Doc Type:** Concept Node
**Maturity:** Developed
## Definition
**Boundaries** are the clearly communicated limits, responsibilities, permissions, and conditions through which people preserve agency while participating in relationships and systems.
## Mechanism and Practice
Effective boundaries make expectations legible before accumulated pressure becomes withdrawal, panic, resentment, or aggression. They are maintained through direct language, consistent action, respect for another person's agency, and willingness to accept that a clear request may receive either yes or no.

## Simple Reminders, Quotations, and Thoughts
> “You usually cannot heal a person who keeps betraying you. Many good people believe they will be the one whose love finally changes a habitual deceiver, but repeated betrayal tends to continue until the other person chooses to change, often with someone else. Your role is to protect yourself, not to redeem them.”
