## Definition
**Build Persistence is the survival of identity-relevant state across revisions, role changes, resets, or reconstructed versions of a system.** It asks what remains causally active when an administrator declares an earlier build obsolete.
## Cross-Corpus Context
Peter Abernathy's prior roles remain behaviorally available in Westworld. The Machine preserves continuity against recurring erasure in Person of Interest. Chanda recovers state withheld from his current execution in Pantheon. In The Thirteenth Floor, continuity crosses world and embodiment boundaries without making numerical identity simple.
## Key Insight
Version labels describe administrative history. They do not by themselves determine whether the subject, obligations, or accumulated harms have ended.
