# BuySecure Initiative
**Domain:** Payment security / United States policy
**Doc Type:** Developed Wiki Node

**Collection:** [[collections/Gamification|Gamification Collection]]
## Definition
The **BuySecure Initiative** was announced by President Barack Obama in October 2014 to strengthen payment security through chip-and-PIN adoption, identity-protection measures, and updated federal payment practices.
## Significance
It is the correct administrative anchor for the later federal-facing payment-tokenization chronology. It should not be backdated to Vivek Kundra's March 2009 appointment or treated as evidence that the early Obama cyber review was a Bitcoin program.
