# Compartmentation
## Definition
Compartmentation restricts sensitive information to bounded groups inside a wider classified environment. Clearance alone does not grant access; authorized role and need-to-know remain relevant.
## Systems Context
Compartmentation limits exposure and can reduce damage from one breach. It can also fragment institutional knowledge, complicate oversight and cause parallel teams to duplicate work without knowing it.
## Pantheon Interface
[[wiki/Secrecy-Induced Proliferation|Secrecy-Induced Proliferation]] can occur across states and inside states when strategically important capabilities are developed in isolated compartments under reciprocal uncertainty.
