## Definition
**Computational addressability** is the degree to which an entity, location, process or state can be identified, represented, referenced and acted upon by computational systems.
Addressability requires more than sensing. The system must bind observations to an identity or coordinate and possess an interface through which a consequential operation can be directed.
## Historical Lineage
Names, postal addresses, cadastral parcels, account numbers and asset tags made persons and things reachable to administrative systems. Sensors, network identities, digital twins and agents extend the pattern into continuously updated operational state.
## Governing Variable
Addressability governs reach: what the system can distinguish and where it can direct information, permission, resources or intervention.
## Relation to Neighboring Concepts
[[wiki/Spatial Addressability|Spatial Addressability]] is a narrower technical node concerning known physical coordinates, especially in neural interfaces. Computational addressability includes nonspatial identities, processes, permissions and models.
## Relation to Governance
What cannot be addressed is difficult to coordinate, but what becomes addressable can also become targetable. The transition from observation to intervention is therefore constitutionally significant.
## Constitutional Question and Failure Modes
Addresses can be wrong, overbroad, persistent beyond legitimate purpose or bound to the wrong subject. Systems need provenance, scope limits, revocation and correction before computational reach becomes automatic authority.
