# Context Independence Context independence is the degree to which a proposition remains intelligible and faithful after removal from its surrounding document. A context-independent unit names enough of its subject, mechanism, scope, and consequence to stand alone without relying on an orphaned pronoun, deictic phrase, or missing transition. Atomic Markdown makes that property a composition-time test rather than a downstream editorial repair.
