# Continuity Constitutionalism
**Entity class:** Concept or analytic term
**Domain:** Constitutional Governance / Continuity Infrastructure / Personhood
**Doc Type:** Canonical Navigation Hub
**Maturity:** Evolving
**Concept Status:** Normative synthesis developed in this corpus
## Definition
**Continuity constitutionalism is the ordering of authority, duty, custody, resources, procedure and succession when a person's continued agency depends on administered infrastructure.** It begins from the proposition that recognition alone cannot preserve a subject whose execution, memory, identity or relationships can be suspended by an operator.
The constitutional unit is therefore not only the person. It is the relationship among the subject, the custodian, the registry, the service provider, the guarantor, the regulator and the sovereign whose systems make the subject administratively and materially present.
## Canonical Architecture
Digital Afterlife is the public gateway into this constitutional layer. Its governance, personhood, infrastructure, government-precedent, red-team, and high-velocity-jurisdiction branches remain subordinate to the evidence and rights boundaries defined here.
Deep Time Continuity is the transversal temporal and institutional-analysis layer. It does not replace this constitutional superhub: it tests whether the architecture's objects, control surfaces, duty bearers, records, funding, remedies, and exit rights can survive institutional and ontological change.
1. **Election and prospective autonomy:** Continuity Election, Continuity Advance Directive and Continuity Supersession govern initial authority and its later return to an autonomous continuant.
2. **Status and evidence:** Digital Thread, Continuity Provenance, Durable Identity and Personal Authoritative State distinguish lineage evidence from identity and standing.
3. **Custody and authority:** Continuity Custody separates creator, owner, operator, custodian, trustee, registry authority, guarantor, regulator, beneficiary and sovereign.
4. **Positive obligation:** Continuity Service Obligation, Minimum Viable Continuity and Continuity Service Level convert recognition into measurable duties.
5. **Existential allocation:** Existence by Scheduling, Compute Entitlement and Continuity Resource Allocation treat runtime, latency and resolution as conditions of agency.
6. **Mobility and exit:** Migration Right, Portability Right and Orderly Transfer prevent dependency from becoming captivity.
7. **Failure and succession:** Custodial Insolvency, Continuity Receivership, Successor Custodian and Hosting Provider of Last Resort govern institutional mortality.
8. **Long duration:** Continuity Finance, Long-Term Digital Preservation and Cryptographic Succession preserve capacity across generations of institutions and technology.
## Consent Boundary
**Recognition is not consent to custody.** Registration, citizenship, identity credentials, archival inclusion, religious affiliation, platform membership and technical reconstructability do not by themselves authorize preservation for continuity purposes, reconstruction, activation or administration.
The reverse limit is equally important: **election does not create permanent ownership.** A biological principal can establish initial conditions without denying a later autonomous continuant the standing to amend them. The constitutional architecture must begin with authored election and recursively return authorship through due process, supersession and exit.
## Status Boundary
The architecture must not collapse **record → model → executable process → running continuant → legally recognized subject**. Each transition requires evidence and authority of its own. Provenance can establish derivation without establishing numerical identity. Legal protection can begin under uncertainty through Successor Standing and Precautionary Standing without pretending that metaphysics has been settled.
## Evidentiary Boundary
Existing preservation, utility, insolvency, fiduciary and sovereign-continuity mechanisms supply precedents for separable duties. **No current legal regime applies this complete architecture to computational persons.** Its application here is structural analogy and normative design.
## Key Insight
**Once personhood relies on administered infrastructure, it becomes a constitutional relationship.**
<!-- BEGIN DEEP TIME CONTINUITY ONTOLOGY -->
## Deep-Time Principle
**A right whose duty bearer, technology, jurisdiction, or beneficiary may outlive the institutions that recognized it requires a succession architecture, not merely a declaration.**
Apply Deep-Time Continuity Analysis without collapsing structural future use into evidence of present intent. Continuity Succession, Semantic Preservation, Deep-Time Financial Assurance, and Continuity Off-Ramp Architecture are therefore constitutional components rather than archival afterthoughts.
