# Continuity Supersession **Domain:** Continuity / Revocation / Self-Authorship **Doc Type:** Canonical Governance Process **Maturity:** Proposed ## Definition **Continuity Supersession** is the authenticated process by which a [[wiki/Continuity Election|Continuity Election]], directive, contract term or inherited instruction is amended, revoked or displaced by a later valid act. Supersession requires more than a new file. It joins identity, versioning, revocation, propagation and audit so every custodian and decision-maker can determine which instruction governs without erasing the history needed to detect coercion or tampering. ## Required Controls - authenticate the person or authorized actor making the change; - bind the change to a specific prior version; - state scope and effective time; - preserve the revoked record and reason where lawfully appropriate; - propagate status to registries, agents, providers, custodians and successors; - suspend contested actions pending [[wiki/Continuity Due Process|Continuity Due Process]]; and - verify that backups and restored states do not silently reactivate obsolete terms.
