A complete history of state may be useful for restoration while also enabling unprecedented retrospective control. The problem is not that continuity records make surveillance exist. [[wiki/Surveillance|Surveillance]] is already the ambient sensing condition. The specific danger is that a custodian can convert intimate historical state into unilateral classification or intervention while the subject cannot inspect, correct or constrain the custodian's model. This is a continuity-scale form of [[wiki/Information Asymmetry|information asymmetry]]. ## Tension Necessary provenance answers who acted, under what authority and how state changed. Total legibility records every intermediate thought, simulation and rejected self. The first supports accountability; the second can eliminate mental privacy and freeze experimental identity into an inspectable dossier. ## Design Boundary Use selective disclosure, compartmented logs, purpose limitation, retention tiers, subject-controlled encryption and auditable access. These are allocation and custody mechanisms inside ubiquitous observation, not promises to restore a world without surveillance.
