# Cyber Reasoning System **Domain:** Cybersecurity / Autonomous systems **Doc Type:** Developed System Node **Maturity:** Developing **Collection:** Gamification Collection ## Definition A **cyber reasoning system** is software that combines program analysis, vulnerability discovery, exploit reasoning, and patch generation to perform portions of computer-security work autonomously. DARPA's Cyber Grand Challenge made such systems competitors in a scored arena. ## Significance The system is both player and analyst: it observes executable behavior, reasons about paths, acts against vulnerabilities, and adapts under time pressure. Competition makes capability legible, but benchmark success remains narrower than autonomous defense across open, changing operational networks. ## Routes Cyber Grand Challenge · Concolic Execution · Agentic Concolic Execution · Capture the Flag ## Sources - America Loves Games and the Home Court Advantage - [DARPA, Cyber Grand Challenge](https://www.darpa.mil/research/programs/cyber-grand-challenge)
