It combines material boundaries with sensors, credentials, communications, control logic, actuators and an operational representation. The enclosure does not merely surround a system. It participates in deciding which actions are executable inside it. ## Historical Lineage Buildings and industrial plants have long used mechanical locks, guards, gauges and local controllers.
