# DCIM **Domain:** Data Center Operations / Infrastructure Management **Doc Type:** Technical Concept Node **Maturity:** Developed ## Definition **DCIM**, data center infrastructure management, is the software and information layer used to relate facility capacity, assets, alarms, power, thermal conditions and operational workflows to information-technology infrastructure. ## Governing Variable DCIM governs operational legibility across the facility-IT boundary: what exists, where it is, what capacity remains and which condition constrains deployment. ## Material and Computational Manifestation Asset records, rack elevations, power chains, sensor data, capacity models, work orders and alarms may be joined in one system.
