# Department of Defense Information Network **Aliases:** DoDIN **Entity class:** Defense information environment and infrastructure ## Definition The **Department of Defense Information Network (DoDIN)** is the globally interconnected set of DoD information capabilities, processes, networks, services, data, systems, and associated infrastructure used to collect, process, store, disseminate, and manage information. It is a federation of environments rather than one network box. ## Importance to CJADC2 DoDIN is the connective substrate on which [[wiki/CJADC2|CJADC2]] depends. Sensors and command applications cannot become joint merely because doctrine says they should: their data must traverse defended networks, identity and access controls, cross-domain mechanisms, transport services, and tactical-edge links. DoDIN supplies that underlying reach.
