# Dialectics **Domain:** Philosophy / History / Social Theory **Doc Type:** Intellectual Framework **Maturity:** Developed ## Definition **Dialectics** studies movement through tension, contradiction, opposition, negation, and transformation. Different dialectical traditions disagree about method and destination, but all reject the idea that concepts and social forms can be understood as static, isolated units. A contradiction may expose limits in an existing arrangement and generate a new configuration. Yet conflict can also be staged inside terms that preserve the underlying system. ## Corpus Context The journal distinguishes productive dialectical movement from managed polemic in which two loud positions create the appearance of an open field while excluding alternatives. ## See Also Binary Opposition · Pluralism · Monism · Social Control
