# Distributed Intention

## Definition
**Distributed Intention is the condition in which the prerequisites of a larger system are deliberately specified and built across many institutions, programs, standards, markets, and engineering disciplines without one actor possessing or authoring a unified blueprint of the completed system.**
It separates two questions that are often collapsed: whether every consequence was centrally planned, and whether the properties enabling that consequence were intentionally engineered. The absence of a master plan does not make resilience, interoperability, autonomy, replication, distributed operation, adaptive control, machine-readable environments, and universal computation accidental.
## The successor specification

It shows that artificial-life researchers explicitly pursued reproduction and evolution; network architects explicitly pursued resilience; cloud systems explicitly pursued elasticity and automated recovery; software systems explicitly pursued portability and interoperability; and machine-learning programs explicitly pursued broader planning, coding, adaptation, and obstacle-solving capability.
No single one of those intentions specifies a successor civilization. Together they construct successor-capable affordances. Durability, autonomous repair, embodied action, replication, resource management, and operation beyond a human-supporting enclosure are therefore legible as a **successor specification** before they are interpreted as a containment failure.
## Relationship to semantic partitioning

The claim is narrower: a composite does not become accidental merely because no participant predicted every interaction among properties that were deliberately selected.
