# Dual-Render Composition Dual-render composition is the practice of authoring one source span so that it produces two deliberately different but semantically faithful reading surfaces. In [[wiki/Atomic Markdown|Atomic Markdown]], the document surface preserves continuity inside a paragraph while the quotation surface restores the subject, scope, opening, or ending needed for the proposition to stand alone. The two surfaces are authored together during composition rather than produced by editing a quotation afterward.
