# Dynamic Ontology
**Domain:** Ontology engineering / Operational systems
**Doc Type:** Developed Concept Node
**Maturity:** Developing
**Collection:** [[collections/Gamification|Gamification Collection]]
## Definition
A **dynamic ontology** is an object-and-relationship model designed to change as data, schemas, permissions, workflows, or operational needs evolve. In the article, the term routes specifically through Palantir's documented and patented ontology architecture.
## Significance
Dynamism helps a model follow a changing world, but it also makes governance harder: revisions can alter what counts as an entity, relation, or permissible action. Version history, compatibility, provenance, authority, and appeal are necessary if change in the map can change the terrain.
