# EPMS **Domain:** Electrical Monitoring / Facilities **Doc Type:** Technical Concept Node **Maturity:** Developed ## Definition An **EPMS**, or electrical power monitoring system, collects, presents and analyzes electrical measurements, equipment status, power-quality events and alarms across a facility's distribution system. ## Governing Variable The EPMS governs electrical visibility: load, capacity, voltage, current, energy, event sequence and equipment state. ## Material and Computational Manifestation Meters, protective devices, communications, time synchronization, event records, dashboards and analytics create the operational layer. In data centers, EPMS information complements the building management system and data-center infrastructure management rather than replacing either. ## Relation to Governance The system makes electrical topology and condition legible to operators and facility models. Its data can support capacity planning, fault diagnosis and facility digital twins. ## Failure Modes Incorrect scaling, time misalignment, missing topology and stale device status can mislead diagnosis. Monitoring cannot substitute for protection, and a dashboard should not become the only authority on whether equipment is safe to operate. ## Related Ontology Switchgear · Telemetry · Building Management System · DCIM · Facility Digital Twin
