## Definition
A **facility digital twin** is a dynamically updated operational representation of a building and its physical systems used for analysis, prediction, coordination or intervention.
It differs from a static building model or dashboard because current state and system relationships participate in operational decisions.
## Governing Variable
The twin governs model-mediated understanding of capacity, condition, topology, risk and possible intervention.
## Material and Computational Manifestation
Asset identities, geometry, electrical topology, thermal systems, sensor streams, maintenance history, alarms and operating constraints can be joined into the twin. In a [[wiki/Data Center|data center]], workload, rack, power and cooling state must be related if the representation is to support facility-aware scheduling.
## Relation to Governance
The twin sits above [[wiki/Building Management System|building management]], electrical monitoring and data-center infrastructure management without replacing their local functions. The physical facility remains ontologically primary even when the twin becomes operationally primary. Model drift, missing assets, stale topology, false precision and proprietary schemas can cause the representation to govern a facility it no longer accurately describes.
