## Definition
The **Federal Chief Information Officer** is the central executive-branch role coordinating United States government information-technology policy, investment, enterprise architecture, interoperability, information security, and related modernization priorities.
## Significance
The appointment of Vivek Kundra in March 2009 made the coordinating role institutionally visible soon after the 60-Day Cyberspace Policy Review began. Central coordination should not be confused with proof of a hidden relationship to Bitcoin or Cicada 3301.
