## Definition
The **firehose of falsehood** is a RAND model of propaganda characterized by high volume and multichannel distribution, rapid and continuous repetition, lack of commitment to objective reality, and lack of commitment to consistency.
## Significance
The model explains why conventional rebuttal can fail. The operator does not need every claim to remain credible; saturation, repetition, source multiplication, and contradictory alternatives can consume attention and lower confidence in adjudication itself. The effect may be confusion, cynicism, disengagement, or selective belief rather than acceptance of one coherent doctrine.
The label is a mechanism hypothesis, not a license to call any prolific false speaker a coordinated influence operation. Volume, channels, tempo, inconsistency, and institutional context should be documented.
