# Fractional Quantum Hall Effect
A quantum mechanical phenomenon observed in two-dimensional electron systems at extremely low temperatures and strong magnetic fields. The discovery at [[wiki/Bell Labs|Bell Labs]] earned Horst Störmer, Daniel Tsui, and Robert Laughlin the 1998 [[wiki/Nobel Prize|Nobel Prize]] in Physics, contributing to Bell Labs' record of nine Nobel Prizes.
