The **Functional Map of the World (fMoW)** challenge sought automated interpretation of satellite imagery, including recognition of the functions of visible sites or structures. [[wiki/Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity|IARPA]] launched it in 2017. It addresses the gap between collecting imagery and producing usable semantic information at scale. The challenge form makes evaluation against shared data central to comparing approaches. Within the ODIN research history, fMoW sits beside biometric Odin and MOSAIC as another machine-perception task.
