# GDP-B **Entity class:** Economic measurement proposal **Domain:** Economics / digital welfare **Maturity:** Developed ## Definition GDP-B is a proposed benefit-oriented complement to conventional gross domestic product that seeks to capture consumer welfare from goods and services whose value is poorly represented by market expenditure. ## Mechanism and significance When digital or AI-enabled capability becomes much cheaper, spending can fall even as consumer benefit rises. A welfare-oriented measure attempts to record that gain instead of treating reduced expenditure as reduced prosperity. ## Relationships - Artificial Intelligence - Human Agency - Digital Public Infrastructure - Moonshots — The Coming Manhattan Project ## Sources and provenance - All Things Superintelligence Research — The Coming Manhattan Project — Moonshots — episode transcript, reconciled against the preserved ElevenLabs timing layer. - Reminder and Wiki Preparation — coherent-thought ledger and evidence boundaries. ## Evidence boundary GDP-B is not a replacement for every national account and does not by itself measure distribution, rights, ecological cost, or non-consumer forms of value. ## Simple Reminders, Quotations, and Thoughts > GDP can fall while lived abundance rises. When technology makes transportation, intelligence, or disease treatment radically cheaper, an economist may record deflation or lost spending even as people gain more capability and healthier lives. > **— Adapted from Dave Blundin**, *Moonshots, October 7, 2026* GDP Can Fall While Lived Abundance Rises by Dave Blundin > Abundance needs measures beyond GDP. If intelligence stops being scarce and individual capability rises without producing proportionate monetary transactions, the meaningful test is not only what the economy spends but how many people rise from the floor and gain the power to achieve what they can imagine. > **— Adapted from Emad Mostaque**, *Moonshots, October 7, 2026* Abundance Needs Measures Beyond GDP by Emad Mostaque
