# Go Programming Language
A statically typed, compiled programming language designed at Google by [[wiki/Ken Thompson|Ken Thompson]], [[wiki/Rob Pike|Rob Pike]], and Robert Griesemer, first appearing in 2009. Thompson and Pike both came from [[wiki/Bell Labs|Bell Labs]]' Unix group, making Go a direct methodological descendant of Bell Labs' systems programming tradition that produced [[wiki/Unix|Unix]] and the [[wiki/C Programming Language|C programming language]].
