# Ground Truth and Perceived Truth **Entity class:** Simulation-control distinction **Domain:** Exercise control / intelligence simulation ## Definition **Ground truth** is the state maintained by the simulation or controller; **perceived truth** is the partial, delayed, distorted, or sensor-mediated state available to a participant. Intelligence training requires both because analysts do not act on omniscient state. They act on evidence shaped by collection, noise, deception, access, timing, and interpretation. ## Relationships - **implemented in:** XLCC. - **intelligence environment:** IEWTPT. - **dramaturgical analogue:** front region/back region in Dramaturgy. - **producer-function operation:** control of what each participant can know inside a constructed world.
