## Definition
**Hack the Pentagon** was the U.S. Department of Defense's first public bug-bounty program, launched in 2016 to invite vetted researchers to identify vulnerabilities in specified public systems.
## Significance
It converted adversarial skill into bounded civilian tasking with scope, authorization, payment, and remediation.
