# Identity Fusion
Identity fusion is an intense alignment between personal identity and a group, cause, or leader such that threats to the collective are experienced as threats to the self. It can produce extraordinary solidarity and sacrifice, but may also reduce tolerance for ambiguity or dissent.
In threat analysis, fusion is one factor among many. It should not be treated as evidence of violence by itself. Context, behavior, norms, leadership, grievance, and protective relationships remain decisive.
