# Identity Pruning
**Domain:** Identity / Memory / Self-Modification
**Doc Type:** Concept Node
**Maturity:** Developed
## Definition
**Identity Pruning** is an attempt at self-revision through suppression, repudiation or destruction of prior self-models rather than integration of the information they carry.
Pruning can reduce captivity by inherited roles, but it also risks converting difficult history into inaccessible state. The distinction is whether the present subject can acknowledge prior actions and causal inheritance while refusing to let any predecessor model claim exclusive authority over the future.
